Genetic Relationship and Diversity Analysis in Arecanut (Areca catechu L.) Genotypes using Molecular Markers

Background: Arecanut (Areca catechu L.) is an important plantation crop of India belongs to the family Arecaceae. As it a highly cross-pollinated there significant difference among genotypes. Morphological traits used for determining diversity and relationships genotypes or variety are prone environmental influences. Thus, usefulness molecular markers has been investigated as means characterizing discriminating more precisely. Therefore, present study was carried out assess genetic relationship arecanut by employing RAPD, ISSR SSR markers. Methods: A total 11 being grown in University Agricultural Horticultural Sciences (UAHS), Shivamogga, Karnataka, India, which includes both local exotic collections. These were evaluated variations using viz., random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSR) simple (SSR). Result: All studied showed polymorphism Jaccard’s similarity coefficient values found range 0.56-0.76, 0.55-0.74 0.52-0.91. The higher observed between Mohitnagar Mangala, well Theerthahalli Local Hirehalli Dwarf. Maidan Cameroon placed very distinct clusters, showing that they having traits. dendrogram prepared data separately combining ISSR, similar results. further studies will be useful identifying germplasm varietal improvement programmes.
